Figurenotes is an accessible way of notating music

Using familiar shapes and colours to show pitch and rhythm, Figurenotes breaks down the initial barriers to playing music

Match

Each note has a colour. Each octave has a shape.

Match the note on the page to the sticker on the instrument. For instruments without stickers, we learn finger patterns.

A keyboard with coloured Figurenotes shapes on the white keys. Below are circles of Red, Brown, Grey, Blue, Black, Yellow and Green. They contain the musical alphabet C-B. Below that is a keyboard with red shapes on the Cs. Middle C is a circle. The others are a cross, square, and triangle.

Rhythm is displayed in a literal, intuitive way.
Figurenotes builds a strong sense of pulse. The note is as long as it looks.

Progress through 3 simple stages and you’ll be reading standard notation.

A huge hit with the students! They didn’t need any explanation as to how it worked. They could straight away just start following the music and playing on the keyboards!
